Recently I noticed my Tricaster TCXD850 purchased in the United States only supports NTSC formats.  According to their tech support, if you need to create a session in PAL format, you must go back to the distributor you purchased your Tricaster and request an upgrade.

I can’t seem to understand why Newtek decided to separate the two formats.  I mean, if you buy a $10,000 Sony camcorder you will get both NTSC and PAL options in the menu.   But when you buy a $30,000 Tricaster you have to choose between NTSC and PAL.   If you want both, you have to ask for it.

Even more frustrating is when I read their manual and found this screen shot…

As you can see, this screen shot has NTSC and Multi-Standard formats!
